Year 1 and Year 2

Philosophy for the week: are letters more important than numbers?

  • Phonics – Spelling Shed
  • Reading –  –  choose Quick Question read sheet
  • Maths – complete sheet 23.04.20
  • English-create an information leaflet about what makes a well balanced picnic. Talk to your grown ups about leaflets and how they might be designed and set out e.g.-bright & colourful, pictures, key information
  • Topic-History – choose from below Look on our learning discussion to read about some of our aunties who are nurses.
  • Don't forget to log on to Spelling Shed, click here.  -Look out for your name on the learning discussion!

Alphabet challenge – can you find items/objects in your house and garden that begin with each letter of the alphabet?!  When you have, collect them together, order them alphabetically, sort the vowels from the consonants.  Here is a picture of what other children have done.

  • History – Florence Nightingale (whole federation theme)

  • Watch https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/true-stories-florence-nightingale/z68fcqt to find out about who Florence Nightingale was.
  • Compare nursing in the past with nursing today.  How is it similar or different? Write words or phrases on your pack sheet. Think about the learning we did on equality of men and women too.
  • Florence Nightingale wrote lots of letters asking for help.  Pretend you are a nurse today. What letter would you write to Boris Johnson? What help would you like?
  • Florence Nightingale Reading Comprehension
  • Florence Nightingale wordsearch
  • Florence Nightingale was called ‘lady of the lamp’.  You could make or draw a lamp and hold it while everyone claps at their doors for the nurses and NHS staff on Thursday night (if continued).

Bentley School's Christian Ethos

"Know that I am with you always," Matthew 28:20 We encourage the spiritual, social, moral and cultural development of the school family by embedding Christian values into everyday life. Our vision is for all children to be confident individuals, successful learners and responsible citizens who are well equipped for future life, knowing that God is with them always.
